hanauma bay hawaii

Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve, one of the most spectacular natural resources in Hawaii. Formed within a volcanic cone, today Hanauma Bay offers a pristine marine ecosystem.

All-Terrain Wheelchairs are available from the Beach Information Kiosk. Not a "beach park" for beach sport, but a Nature Preserve dedicated to safeguarding the fragile marine life in the Bay, Hanauma is the first Marine Life Conservation District in the State.

  • Disabled visitors are encouraged to reach the shore using our special beach wheelchairs FREE of charge. Available for 2 hours on a first come first served basis. Hours open: 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. all year around.

  • All of the facilities at the Bay are designed to be fully accessible to our disabled guests.

  • The Theater has a separate screen that simultaneously shows a closed caption version.

  • City buses can "kneel" to accommodate wheelchairs. For more information call TheBus at (808) 848-5555. 24 Hour Information Hotline call (808) 396-4229.

  • The tram to and from the beach area has a ramp and can accommodate wheelchairs.

While beach wheelchairs are available, there are no beach mats or accessible docks/marinex swimming rigs which allow safe access to the water for the elderly or disabled.
