Jekyll Island is committed to accessibility to our beaches for our residents and guests who need assistance in visiting our beaches. The following information will be helpful in your travels to the island.
Accessible Beach Access Points
Jekyll Island has public beach access points that are accessible to people with disabilities. Here is the list of those locations:
- Oceanview Beach Park, crossover #26
- Great Dunes Park, crossover #32
- Beach Village, crossover #38
- St. Andrews Beach, crossover #67
Jekyll Island’s new Oceanview Beach Park features a wheelchair-accessible observation deck with two ADA-accessible benches, to allow visitors to take in breathtaking views of the beach.
The ramp at St. Andrews Beach provides access directly to the hard pack sand on the shore. Please note, because of the large tidal differentials and shifting dunes on Jekyll Island, the mats at crossovers #32 and #38 may not always reach the hard pack sand.
Beach-going Wheelchairs
Jekyll Island has beach-going wheelchairs available for use at no cost on a first-come, first-served basis. The chairs are equipped with balloon tires and safety belts for people with disabilities. To acquire the use of one of these chairs, please call 912.635.2368. Chairs can be delivered to (and picked up from) any of the accessible beach access points between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., weather permitting. Use of the chairs is free, but we do require photo identification. Chairs are not available after 5:00 p.m. Note that all chairs may be in use at some times. A beach-going chair is also available for guests staying at the Days Inn & Suites hotel.
Jekyll Island currently does not have accessible docks/swimming rigs that allow for safe entry and swimming in the open water.
