Myrtle Beach South Carolina - accessible ferris wheel!!!

myrtle beach at night with pier and ferris wheel

Myrtle Beach was incorporated in 1938 and became a city in 1957, when the permanent population first topped 5,000.  The name "Myrtle Beach" comes from the wax myrtle, an abundant local shrub, and was chosen in a name-the-town contest in 1900.  Myrtle Beach has been separated from the continental United States since 1936 by the Intracoastal Waterway.

This beach is full of life and perfect for family vacations. Be sure to check out “Broadway At the Beach” not a show but an area full of restaurants, shops, nightlife, and other attractions. You'll be happily overwhelmed with the choices.

Also not to be missed is the SkyWheel, a ferriswheel with amazing views, also fully wheelchair accessible!

BEACH WHEELCHAIRS!

Myrtle Beach provides beach wheelchairs, free of charge, to residents and visitors alike who visit the city’s beaches.  The wheelchairs are distributed on a first come, first served basis due to popularity of the service and total number of wheelchairs available.   Note the number of wheelchairs available for use depends on the existing supply, as the chairs need consistent repairs due to weathering the beach elements.  To fairly distribute the wheelchairs, the city does not honor advance reservations, overnight requests or multiple day requests.

They do not, however, currently provide accessible docks or "swimming rigs" which allow wheelchair users to safely access the water.

Beach wheelchairs are given to beach patrons for use for one calendar day, after which the wheelchair must be returned to the City of Myrtle Beach by 5:00 p.m. on the same day the wheelchair is delivered.  Weather permitting, delivery times are between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., seven days a week, excluding off-season city holidays.
