Stearns Park Beach in Ludington was voted as the fifth most accessible walkway in the nation. Explore the beaches of Lake Michigan without ever leaving your wheelchair. Follow the north walkway which extends to the water’s edge and works great for all types of wheelchairs. Or take the south which meets up with the concrete walkway and concludes at the pier. Various donors purchased the boards that make up the walkway, with messages and names inscribed on each board.
The do not currently have beach wheelchairs or swimming rigs available but the unprecedented expansive walkways make this beach of the most accessible beaches in the US.
This is the city's largest beach, with 2,500 feet of sandy shoreline and plenty of FREE parking. There are no lifeguards, but beach patrol officers are on duty from 11am-8pm. There is also free Wi-Fi at the park.
Also in Ludington is the famous North Breakwater Light as seen in countless pictures and movies, but it can only be called a light since a house was never attached, thus its name. This area boasts the best of both worlds with forested woodland and waterfront trails snaking their way throughout Ludington State Park. If you’re ready to make smores around a campfire, many of the campsites here are also wheelchair accessible.
