Outer Banks, South Carolina - Jennette's Pier

Unfortunately, the Outer Banks has not made significant investment into making their beaches handicap accessible. Less than half of their parking lots even have handicapped parking and only two have beach mats which accommodate wheelchair access (Eighth Street - MP 10 and Jennette's Pier - MP 16.5) - fortunately both these locations do have handicapped parked but, sadly, do not have beach wheelchair options.

Buckhorn State Park

The park and two adjacent wildlife areas are on a 8,190-acre peninsula on the Castle Rock Flowage of the Wisconsin River. Unique cart-in campsites offer a rustic flavor. Accessible cabin, wildlife/hunting blinds, boat boarding pier, and fishing pier. Adaptive equipment is available for participants with disabilities or mobility impairments including specialized kayaks and sit skis for cross country skiing.

Accessible Open Water Swimming

While beach mats and beach wheelchairs can help us get out to where the fun in the sun is happening, they can't get us into the water to safely, fully enjoy the experience. The next generation of open water accessibility comes from "accessible docks" which allow users of advanced age or handicaps enter the water guided by a ramp with handrails.

Wisconsin turns great lakes into great, ACCESSIBLE lakes for all!

Through investments intended to give access to everyone, Wisconsin is making use of the best technologies available to ensure that all of its taxpayers can enjoy the water.
